What qualities are we looking for in a project if you’re pitching an idea?
Accessible: achievable by the average person and doesn’t require advanced skills. Use materials anyone can access
Creative: show people a new or innovative way to use or do something they might not have thought of.
Affordable: inexpensive or reasonably priced projects. (Saving money is even better!)
Relatable: meaning applicable and relevant to many people, engaging to watch, without too many complicated steps.
How do I film my show?
Record the hook requested on your Monday board.
Start the first step of your project right away without giving an overview about what you’re making.
When explaining steps, talk in first person, present tense only (Example: Next, I am… vs. Next you’re going to… )
Each time you start a new step/clip, consider repositioning the camera for the best angle for the viewer to see what you’re doing. Transition between a medium shot, a close-up shot, and if relevant, an extreme close-up with different steps.
Please do not film the project from one, far-away angle.
Make sure to end with a staged and styled after!
Your outro is: I hope this inspired you to (add your own words related to project). Thanks for watching Hometalk and see you next time!
Filming & Editing:
Film horizontally on an iphone or camera
The video can be between 10-15 minutes unedited
Film on a tripod
We do all the editing for you, but if you want to edit before sending, please do not add any graphic overlays or fancy transitions. We ask this to keep videos looking as consistent as possible
Filming Surface:
Please no cluttered surfaces - they will distract from your project and result in lower viewership.
In terms of the work surface, A natural fiber dropcloth, light wood, light brown butcher/craft paper background is our standard. A background will need to be approved before filming.
Equipment:
If you’d like to purchase equipment for filming, here’s what we recommend:
DSLR Camera Stabilizer
